This bass is perfect for metal and that's exactly what I need it for. I've been using a Line-6 Lowdown 300 Combo with this bass and all the effects that can be created with it. I use it mainly on the clean channels but occasionally I'll switch it to my distortion channel when needed. I can't say I have any complaints with the overall sound and tone. It only has a volume knob so the sound is almost pure from the passive custom pickup. It's Bright but not harsh, and when compared to my active 4-string bass, it has a nice warmer growl...just something cool and eerie about it. It's gonna sound great on stage and I'm definitely looking forward to how this thing will sound in the studio!
Considering the size of the company the bass came to me great! The action and inotation was great when I got it. The pickup was set perfectly and the truss rod came adjusted properly. It plays fast and smooth. The black high gloss finish is beautiful. It's such a simple bass but It's still an eye catcher. It overall looks great!
I haven't had the pleasure to gig with this instrument yet, but I'm assuming like the rest of their guitars I've seen that it will stand the test of time. Everything on this bass feels like it'll withstand anything. I feel that my Halo will not let me down.
BEST SUPPORT EVER! After deciding on what bass I wanted, I called Halo directly, ordered it and received it within 10 days. Throughout the whole process, Jeff Lee (the co-owner), was extremely friendly and helpful. I didn't have to sit through waiting period after waiting period over the phone to make any small request or change anything to my order. Honestly It was the first time I felt like I was being taken care of by a company. I'll be more than happy to work with Halo Guitars for a very VERY long time. As for the warranty, It's what seems like the industry standard. It all looks fair to me! Take a look for yourself. http://haloguitars.com/archived/warranty.html
I've been playing for 6 years. I also currently own an ESP LTD F-404, Kramer Focus 7000, Line-6 Lowdown 300 Combo. Over these past few years I've owned and played many different products. I love the growl and I love the eye appeal of my Octavia. If it was ever lost or stolen I would order a replacement ASAP! The only thing I wish went differently is I wish I had a bunch of cash so I could custom design a bass through Halo Guitars...Until then though, I think I'll be fine with what I got. I couldn't be more impressed, small company or not...Halo will always have my vote.

My band prides itself on creativity and being unique. When I first saw the OCTAVIA bass my mind went rampant with all the different build possibilities. Not to mention it isn't common to have a single bridge pickup. Only a few companies have dabbled in it. The artists that play these pickup positions get monstrous aggressive tones. I decided to make the change over and start jamming the OCTAVIA both in studio and live. So far I am head over heals in love with the bass. I switched from Spector Basses over to Halo Custom Basses and have not lost any build or tonal quality. For the price this should be a crime.
I ordered the OCTAVIA 4 string with the N-Tune upgrade. The N-Tune is a beautiful touch for any situation. The standard Halo Bass pickup in the OCTAVIA has a surprisingly high output. I would easily compare them to an EMG HZ pickup. They are a bit more aggressive but still hold those crystal clear highs and thunderous lows. The single pickup really shines.
The neck is a completely smooth and effortlessly fast set neck. What this does in theory is offer more sustain. The OCTAVIA does just that. But there are number of build perks that add to that. With that being said, Set Neck basses generally have a nice warmer tone. The mix of the single bridge pickup, set neck, and string through body make this an ultra aggressive yet warm bass for any musician of any genre. My band plays everything from Alternative to Punk and Funk. This bass fits in nicely for all genres.
The black gloss finish is rather beautiful for such a simple finish. I got my bass with NO body defects.
All in all, I have to say Halo Custom Guitar's OCTAVIA bass is a sure winner. Haven't found a single thing I don't like about it. If you are shopping for a cheap yet great quality bass .. look no further.
