The guitarists in the band, For Today, have chosen Halo Custom Guitars for their guitar needs.

How'd this come about?

It was a Friday afternoon at the Halo shop and one of our luthiers, Brandon Benedict, offered me his extra ticket to the For Today show in Santa Cruz that night. We thought we'd meet with the band's guitar and bass players to see if they might be interested in checking out our guitars. I sent a tweet to the band and their singer, Mattie Montgomery, got back to me. We exchanged info and set up a meeting for that night.

We arrived in Santa Cruz with a couple of guitars: a stock MERUS-7 with Evertune and a custom MERUS-6 Baritone. After navigating through the venue and finding our way backstage, we ran into they guys from For Today and I asked them if they knew where we could find the guys from For Today (they knew exactly where they were). Anyway, after introductions and pleasantries, we broke out the guitars and sat back while Ryan Leitru (lead guitar) checked out the MERUS-7 and Brandon Leitru (guitar) checked out the MERUS-6. As they were getting their hands on the guitars, we all chatted about Halo for a bit, and we also learned of their particular needs and preferences in the instruments they choose to play while touring and recording. Generally, they needed 6-string guitars with high end components like the Evertune bridge and Fishman Fluence Modern pickups. I knew our instruments could deliver so I let the instruments speak for themselves.

By the end of the meeting, everybody in the room, including Cody Bradley (guitar tech), was impressed with the guitars' build quality, craftsmanship, playability, components, and overall aesthetics.

It was a good first meeting that would lead to further development and relationship building.

We spent the subsequent weeks discussing how we would best work with and support the players in For Today. With each player having unique preferences, and with Halo being a custom guitar builder, we thought it best to encourage the guys to come up with their own designs/specs using the Halo Guitar Customization Tool. After a few back-and-forths, we finalized all the custom guitar designs and started building them.

Below are the mockups of their custom guitar designs:

These custom guitars are in production currently, so stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog article series, where we'll post some updates and in-progress build pictures.

Of the three guitars, which one is your favorite? Would you change any of the specs? Let us know your thoughts!

Pretty sick stuff man! I thought Ryan was an EMG guy, but hey, whatever gets him that tone he needs, awesome! Honestly, just based off of these mock ups, the only thing I'd change is the pickups. Personally I'm an EMG guy, specifically the 57/66 and Het Set. Otherwise, these are some rad looking instruments.

They all look great, but I dig Brandon's TJ the most.

I like all of them, but I like Ryan's the most.

I would take the salvus and the only thing I would change is I would make it a seven string

I really like Jim Hughes choice because it's sort of classic with a nod to a new school look while still being edgy. I especially like the double humbucker choice. The only thing I'd do differently is gold hardware because it seems to set off tortoise shell pick guards.
