At Halo Custom Guitars, we offer a plethora of options. From your guitar’s body shape, to your pickup selection and beyond. At times we offer solutions for people who are looking for something personalized or different to what other manufacturers can provide. However, a particular subject we often help customers with selecting are the right piezo pickups or MIDI system. These customers usually want a convincing acoustic sound or a way to interact with MIDI directly through their electric guitar. There are many options available, but one solution we often come back to is the Graph Tech Ghost Modular Pickup System. It offers a great experience that is fun and seamless.

The Graph Tech Ghost System is easy and reliable to play with. It's composed of two choices that can change your playing experience:

(Graph Tech Ghost Saddles)

To begin, the pickups that help create an acoustic tone are located within the Graphtech Ghost Saddles. Each saddle has a piezo built in to provide a responsive and more articulate signal.

(Ghost Acousti-Phonic Preamp)

Following that, the pickups are connected to the Acousti-Phonic Preamp. With this preamp, you are able to emulate an impressive acoustic tone. The preamp is powered by a 9-volt battery, accessed by a custom-routed battery compartment on the back of your guitar. The Acousti-Phonic can be controlled by a mini toggle switch that lets you select between the piezo pickups, magnetic pickups, or both as your active signal. This allows you to play in mono for either magnetic or piezo, and stereo if you use both, but using both requires a ‘Y’ cable for stereo split. Another way to split the signals is to have a dedicated (independent) output jack for each signal. Finally, with the Acousti-Phonic Preamp, you also have the option to add an acoustic/piezo volume control pot and/or Mid/Dark switch (allows you to to boost the mid range signal).

With the Graph Tech Ghost saddles, mini toggle switch and Acousti-Phonic preamp, you have a complete piezo pickup system in your electric guitar!
Now, let’s say you wanted to combine a MIDI interface with the Acousti-Phonic: that’s where the Hexpander comes in! The Hexpander is one of the fastest tracking MIDI systems available for your guitar. It operates with the latest MIDI converters and Virtual Guitar systems through a 13-pin output  jack, normally installed on the side of your guitar close to your magnetic pickup output jack. Combined with the optional MIDI volume control and selector switch, you can have effortless MIDI interaction as you play!

Currently the Hexpander is limited to 6 strings per board, so if you want MIDI control on instruments with more than 6 strings, you will need a second Hexpander to have MIDI control on the additional strings. If you only desire the Hexpander without the Acousti-Phonic preamp and piezo, no problem. The Hexpander can also be connected without the Acousti-Phonic for MIDI output!
